Tonight, at the kick-off of my Foundations of Yoga series, we will be learning the ujayi pranayama (breath) and then how to connect that breath with our movements. Ujayi invites the body to breathe deeply and fully with a soothing sound. It increases lung capacity, oxygen levels and calms the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for our fight or flight response.
When this breath is connected to movement, you will feel a deep sense of calm and relaxation even while the physical body is putting forth effort. With practice, you will even begin to feel the pranayama swirling inside of you and the pulsation of the body.
Mastering the breath and movement connection, is vital if you want to develop a strong Yoga Practice. For this reason, the Foundations of Yoga series will begin its first session by exploring this connection and the pulsation that it creates. If you are local to the DC area, I hope to meet you at the Journey Space this evening at 6:30 PM. Details can be found on my site, www.juliehollyyoga.com/BookOnline
